The Cavalhadas are one of the most curious Azorean festivals, occurring on St. Peter's Day. The feast includes a horse parade, which seems to have been inspired by medieval tournaments. Knights, lancers, stewards and white-collared snappers with cloaks and red bands, mounted on horses, are concentrated alongside the Manor of Mafoma, home of the century XVIII, and begin a cavalcade to the sound of trumpets, behind the "king" or majoral, a personage of long beards
