The race begins at the edge of the Sete Cidades lagoon, one of the seven natural wonders of Portugal, which is the largest fresh water lake in the Azores and is located in one of the volcanic craters that formed this Island, and is set in a scenario of undeniable beauty. Another of the highlights of the event is the passage through the Serra de Agua de Pau in the volcanic massif of Fogo, classified as Regional Natural Reserve since 1974. The highest elevation is Pico da Barrosa, with a maximum elevation of 974m, and is one of the where you can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Fogo Lagoon, with the city of Ribeira Grande to the north, and on the southern slope, the islet of Vila Franca do Campo and the village of Água de Pau.
